Things to do in Chamonix
Aiguille Du Midi cable car
One of Chamonix’s highest peaks, the Aiguille du Midi has been a must-see for over 60 years. In just 20 minutes, a cable car takes you from downtown Chamonix to 3,842 m.
- Dress warmly; bring sunglasses and sunscreen
- Not allowed for children under 3; not recommended under 5
- Allow 2–3 hours for the visit (may take longer during peak times)
Mer de Glace & Montenvers Train
The Montenvers Railway is a historic red cogwheel train that takes you on a scenic 20-minute ride from Chamonix to the Mer de Glace, France’s largest glacier. Open since 1908, the train climbs steep mountain tracks to reach the Montenvers station at 1,913 meters.
- Warm clothes and good shoes are recommended
- The ice cave is accessible via a gondola and then about 500 steps
- Plan for 2 to 3 hours for the full visit
Paragliding
